Radio Disney Music Awards Honors Gwen Stefani

The Radio Disney Music Awards have come and gone, and what a night it was! The show focuses on teen pop music, and the awards are chosen by Radio Disney listeners, through online voting. That meant that kids like you could help pick the winners! This was also the first year that Canadian listeners were able to vote, so they got to help choose, too.

The Radio Disney Music Awards honors winners in different categories, like Best Female Artist, Best Male Artist, Best New Artist, and Fiercest Fans. This year, Selena Gomez won Best Female Artist, while Ed Sheeran won for Best Male Artist. Taylor Swift won Song of the Year for her song, Bad Blood, which also won Best Breakup Song.

The Best Group winners were Fifth Harmony, and Tori Kelly won the Breakout Artist of the Year. Country Group Maddie & Tea won the Favorite Country Artist award, and their song, Fly, took Favorite Country Song.

One of the biggest awards at the Radio Disney Music Awards is the Hero Award. This award is given to musicians who have a done a lot of charity work (helping others). This year, Gwen Stefani won the award, and it was given to her by her friend, Pharrell Williams! Pharrell showed a video that showed all the charity work Gwen Stefani had done over time, and she was very proud and emotional. “I am so honored to be here, I am so honored to be making music. I am so blessed to be making music that I can share with you and that I can receive your love back,” Stefani said.

Not long ago, Gwen Stefani talked about how she makes music to help herself stay positive and strong. She told Vogue magazine, “I feel like I’m in an amazing songwriting place; instead of being closed off, I’m thinking about positivity and how I can do something creative. I’m just doing what I want to do. It’s so incredible to be in that zone.”
